How to Reduce Your Child's Screen Time

-by Shuchita Shukla

Almost every child is using electronic devices these days. This increased screen time has negative impacts. Are you also tired of your child’s addiction to screens? This is the perfect space you’ve landed on.

Here are 5 tips that would help you to reduce your child’s screen time-

1.    Set realistic goals: Do not decrease screen time suddenly. Instead, keep lowering it by half an hour every day. This way your child will get accustomed to your desired goal.

2.    Be a role model: Your child learns from you. You are their idol. They imitate your actions. Thus, set yourself as a great example. Show them that even you consume less screen time.

3.    Engage them with nature: Convince them to play outside. Staying around greenery will be good for them. They will enjoy playing in parks with their friends. This will ultimately reduce their screen time.

4.    Phone-free zones: This is a unique and helpful concept. Tell them that certain areas in your home are ‘phone-free zones.’ Everyone is prohibited to use electronic gadgets in these zones. This can be your dining area. With no phones in their hands, your kids will socialise with you.

5.    Talk to them about it: There may be instances when your child refuses to follow the rules. Do not scold them. Be gentle with them. Sit them down and explain to them why these rules are made. Let them know the positives of being outside and the negatives of too much screen time.

You are responsible for your child’s primary socialisation. In this digital world, you should help them know the pros and cons of using electronic devices. Stay patient throughout the journey!
