10 Reasons Why FRIENDS is the Best Sitcom Ever!

-by Shuchita Shukla

You’re living under a rock if you don’t know about F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

The show ran from 1994-2004 and is still so relevant. People of all generations are fans of this marvellous show.

Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross are loved unconditionally throughout the world.

Let’s find out the reasons behind so much love for the show.

1) They are always there for each other

The six of them clearly meant it when they said “I’ll be there for you.”

Their bond with one other is so platonic and real, it’s safe to say we all crave for such friendships. In Gen Z’s lingo, their friendship is “Goals.”

Okay, imagine how beautiful it is to have not one, not two, but five people who support and love you unconditionally. That’s what each of the characters felt.

Monica gave Rachel a place to live when she was at her lowest. Chandler helped Joey in all his financial ups and downs. There are innumerable instances when they were “there for each other.”

2) Central Perk

Ah, well we all want a Central Perk in our city, don’t we?

You’d be lying if you said you never wanted to go there. Whenever a scene comes up where all the friends are hanging out at this beautiful coffee place, all of us feel as if we are sitting on that orange sofa too.

The first scene of the show begins at Central Perk, and then becomes a constant go-to place. No episode without Central Perk feels complete.

It’s a magic of beautiful direction of this show that one feels he is living the show too.

3) Joey, everyone’s best friend.

Go around and ask any person who’s watched FRIENDS, if they like Joey.

The answer will always be a ‘yes.’

If we start off stating the reasons why we love Joey, the day would end but the reasons won’t.

Joey is a charmer. I mean, come on, who wouldn’t fall for his “How you doin’?”

He broke off his relationship with Janine for Chandler and Monica. He gave up Ursula, because he didn’t want to lose his bond with Phoebe.

He helped Rachel during her pregnancy.

For Joey, friendship always came first. He may not have gotten the love of his life at the end of the show, but he sure showed what being a true best friend is like.

4) Monica and her love story
Monica Geller-Bing is a fun and interesting character.

She loves to cook for everybody selflessly. Her commitment to her work is appreciable. Monica is one competitive woman, and never gives up!

The dreamy fairytale love story of Monica and Chandler!!

The two best friends found their forever in each other.

In the first season, who would have thought that Mondler would be the couple we all would fall in love with?

But then, destiny has its way.

We all cried when the proposal happened. When Chandler asked Monica to marry him, we all screamed “Say yes!” They got married and had beautiful twins.

Well, let’s just hope we all find love as pure as theirs.

5) Rachel, the fashionista.

Nobody could have played the role of Rachel better than Jennifer Aniston.

Girls and boys, there is no debate that Rachel is a treat to our eyes. Just one question from our side- “How so pretty, Rach?”

Hold on! There’s so much more depth to this character than just looks.

The way Rachel transitioned from being a rich-spoilt girl to having a successful career in Fashion, it is no doubt that she is one solid inspiration for all the girls out there.

6) Phoebe, the quirky mess.

Let’s get to the point- We all want to be as straightforward as Phoebe Buffay.

The fun and freshness Phoebe brings to the screen is unbelievable.

She had a rough childhood, but she didn’t let it overpower her. She always believed in finding real love, and the truest of friendships.

“Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?” The confidence this girl has while singing her songs is astounding.

7) Most under-rated – Ross

Ross Geller, oops sorry, Dr. Ross Geller is one unique character in himself.

It is such an inspiration for how he never gave up on love and marriage despite having three failed marriages.

The way Ross understood Carol and never blamed her for the failure of their marriage, says so much about the beautiful heart he’s got.

David Schwimmer’s expressions as Ross are hilarious. You’ll never stop laughing when Ross does his bit.

8) Motherhood and kids

This show has been so progressive in terms of depicting the ways motherhood could be.

Rachel had her baby when she was unmarried and least expected it. She decided to bring Emma to the world. She showed how strong she is, as a woman and as a mother.

Phoebe was so selfless. She had triplets for her half-brother and his wife. Nobody could imagine the pain she went through when she had to give them up after 9 months.

Monica always wanted babies. But the universe didn’t make it an easy path for her. It was then when adoption came into the picture and Monica and Chandler had twins.

Three women, three different stories, and all of them depicted the beauty of motherhood.

9) The dialogues
"Joey doesn't share food!!"
"I'm not great at the advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?'
"No uterus, No opinion."

This epic show is known for its popular dialogues.

You know it's Monica when you hear "I know!"
Phoebe's "My Eyes! My Eyes! still makes us laugh. Ross' "I'm fine" will forever make us go ROFL.
10) Chandler Muriel Bing

We saved the best for the last. Chandler Bing!!

Chandler is possibly the most relatable character on the show. The way he gets all shy in front of his crushes, we have all been there.

His sarcasm and sense of humour is the highlight of the show.

He is possibly the best friend and the most supportive boyfriend one could ever wish for.

Thus, it is safe to say that FRIENDS is the best sitcom of all time. There are still a lot more reasons for the love this show gets.

It’s practically impossible to list all of them in one post.

If you still haven’t watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S, go on Netflix and watch it right now!

Filter out for peace.
